Con Edison Purchases Experian QAS Address Verification

Address software designed to reduce returned mail and operational costs

Boston, Mass., June 8, 2010 — Experian® QAS®, a leading provider of address verification software and services, today announced that Con Edison purchased QAS Pro and QAS Batch to improve address quality. The products are expected to reduce returned mail and postage costs.

“We spend millions of dollars every year on mailings,” said Robin Segur, manager of credit and collections and customer service operations at Con Edison. “Even though we have service addresses standardized in our system, we are seeing a growing number of returned mail each month because customers’ mailing addresses are incorrect. We expect the new software to correct our addresses, allowing invoices and notices to reach our customers.”

QAS Pro will be rolled out in all three of Con Edison’s call centers to ensure accurate account setup and address changes in real time. QAS Batch will be used in back-office operations to clean existing address data.

Con Edison joins a growing number of utilities using address verification from Experian QAS. These utilities include Sarasota County Utilities, Orange County Utilities Department and Miami-Dade Water & Sewer Department.

“Utilities are often plagued by poor mailing address data,” said Joel Curry, chief operating officer, Experian QAS. “If an accurate mailing address is not available, utilities can face large amounts of return mail and customer service complaints. By simply ensuring the accuracy of a mailing address before it enters a database, utilities can avoid these problems.”
