Google Steady at 71 Percent of U.S. Searches in September 2008

Search leader increases 12 percent year-over-year

New York, N.Y. — Oct. 17, 2008 —Hitwise®, an Experian company, announced today that Google accounted for 71.16 percent of all U.S. searches in the four weeks ending Sept. 27, 2008. Yahoo! Search, MSN Search and Ask.com each received 18.06 percent, 5.36 percent and 3.63 percent, respectively. The remaining 45 search engines in the Hitwise Search Engine Analysis Tool accounted for 1.80 percent of U.S. searches.

Google an increasing source of traffic to key U.S. industries
Search engines continue to be the primary way Internet users navigate to key industry categories. Comparing September 2008 with September 2007, Business and Finance, Sports, Online Video and Social Networking categories showed double-digit increases in their share of traffic coming directly from search engines.
